Question: Q: While typing a doc in Word, the spinning wheel appeared and froze the Word document. I had another Word doc open at the time. I tried to force quit, but it didn't work. I would like to save it before losing my work, but the spinning wheel blocks me. Dec 26, 2012 If The spinning Stops You should be able to. But sounds like you the beginnings of some corruption. First if you have Track Changes on Accept all Changes and Turn off. Then: Do a 'Maggie' on the document: 1. Turn on hidden characters the ¶ button. Click at beginning of document. Scroll to end of document 4. Click just before the last ¶. 5. In the AutoSave or AutoRecover info every box, enter how frequently you want Word to save documents. Change where to automatically save files. On the Word menu, click Preferences. Under Personal Settings, click File Locations. Under File locations, click AutoRecover files, and then click Modify. I have about 2 1/2 pages of work which isn't saved and I was using spell check for a word and then suddenly and I clicked 'Changed' the spinning wheel of death came on! I tried looking on google for help and all I could find was people telling me to Force Quit, which I do not want to do because none of it is saved and it took me a good 1 1/2 to.
Hi guys,
I found a sneaky way to get a document 'unfrozen'. I take no responsibility for what happens if you try this, but it worked for me.
I went to Utilities -> Activity Monitor. Then under the Memory Tab, I selected 'Windows Server' and shut this down. The screen went blank and I was sent back to the User log-in screen. Then after I logged in again, my document was re-opened and re-appeared in the 'Recovered' state. I did have 'Allow Backround Saves' and 'Save AutoRecover Info every 10 minutes' ticked in my Preferences (under the Word menu). And I probably didn't need to do it this way because of that.
But it worked..
Over the last couple of days when I use Microsoft Word or Excel, I get the spinning wheel of death for a minute or so when opening, clicking on or editing a document/spreadsheet. Uberly frustrating.
Any ideas what might be going on?
Thank you,
`/era
